Veneers in Frisco & McKinney
Veneers, as versatile cosmetic dental restorations, can address a variety of perceived flaws in your smile. They can enhance the whiteness, brightness, and alignment of your teeth. Even minor chips and cracks can be concealed with veneers, making them a comprehensive and adaptable cosmetic improvement option.
What are veneers?
Veneers are ultra-thin shells made of porcelain or composite resin that fit over the front surface of your natural teeth. They are custom-fitted to fit seamlessly, camouflaging discoloration, chips, gaps, cracks, and other imperfections in your smile.
What types of veneers are available?
Porcelain veneers, the most durable and natural-looking option, are Dr. Mughal’s specialty. They are stain-resistant and possess the translucent quality of natural teeth.
While composite resin veneers are also available, they are not as durable and are prone to staining. Dr. Mughal’s focus on high-quality porcelain veneers ensures superior results that last for years.
What happens when you get veneers?
Getting porcelain veneers is a two-step process. During your first visit, Dr. Mughal will carefully remove a thin layer of enamel from your teeth so that the veneers will fit securely and look natural when applied. Impressions are taken of your teeth and sent to our dental lab, where custom veneers are fabricated.
On your second visit, Dr. Mughal bonds the veneers to the teeth, polishing the porcelain and smoothing any rough edges. The result is a flawless smile.
Do veneers hurt to get?
In most cases, no. During the first appointment, we numb the teeth and gums before removing any enamel.
You may experience mild sensitivity when the local anesthetic wears off, but this will subside in a day or two.
If you get multiple veneers, your jaw may feel stiff or mildly sore because it remains open longer than usual during the procedure. Any discomfort is easily controlled with Ibuprofen or other over-the-counter pain relievers.
Which are better, veneers or crowns?
While both veneers and crowns can correct cosmetic flaws, they have some distinct differences:
- Crowns can protect teeth from future damage or decay or serve as cosmetic restorations, while veneers are purely cosmetic.
- Veneers cover only the front portion of the tooth, while crowns cover all surfaces above the gum line.
- Veneers are generally only placed on the teeth that show when you smile (the upper central and lateral incisors). Crowns can be placed on any teeth.
- Crowns are recommended for damaged, fractured, or weak teeth that may be damaged by grinding or clenching.
- Veneers are recommended for cosmetic correction of teeth that are discolored, misaligned, or have minor chips or cracks.
Should you get veneers?
If you want to improve your smile and are looking for a solution that will last for years, porcelain veneers are an excellent option if you meet the following criteria:
- You are in good health without gum disease or cavities.
- You have enough tooth enamel to support the removal of the top layer.
- You do not grind or clench your teeth, which can damage veneers.
- You practice good oral hygiene.
- Your expectations are realistic, and you understand what veneers can and cannot change about your smile.
- You do not use your teeth as tools to open packages or chew on pens or other hard objects.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
Your porcelain veneers should last 10-15 years with proper oral hygiene and regular dental checkups. You will need to get new veneers once your first set wears out. Veneers are a permanent commitment.
How much do porcelain veneers cost?
The cost of porcelain veneers varies depending on the number of veneers used, the size and location of the teeth, the anesthesia used, and other factors.
Dr. Mughal uses only the highest-quality porcelain veneers and bonding materials to ensure a natural appearance and durability.
